Research Findings

Research findings:
Pablo Picasso – Les Demoiselles D’Avignon – 1907 Oil on canvas

Pablo Picasso was a 20th century artist. He was highly creative and inspirational; a man who changed the course of art history. This piece of artwork was influenced by African art and Cezanne. In following years, his artwork developed into the angular and structural art style (Cubism).
Picasso relates to our idea of perspectives and deception because his cubism pieces are always interpreted in different ways. His pieces highlight differences in image which is what we highlighted in our living Gallery piece – differences people see in us but the similarities within us that people are blind to.

Interview:
Rasheed Araeen: Zero to Infinity (Source: http://www.tate.org.uk/context-comment/video/rasheed-araeen-zero-infinity)
“I realised they could be arranged in so many different positions”
“It could be any combination”
“In the beginning it is meant to be a symmetrical order which is broken by the human intervention, but the symmetry is not destroyed, even when the structure emerges”

“It is a symmetrical structure which you are manipulating”

These quotes from this interview relate to human perception. Relating some words to our themes – “Combination”=DNA
“Different positions”=body shapes and sizes
“Broken by human intervention”=the acceptance has been lost in society due to natural human instincts and opinions forming in the human brain
“manipulating”= the image we try to create of ourselves means we change the way we act and try to look as if we have been manipulated by society to change our image.
